Hoboken Hurricane Irene victims can apply for extra food stamps on Sept. 14

HOBOKEN – The Hudson County Division of Welfare will be at the Multi-Service Center (2nd and Grand streets) on Sept. 14 to meet with Hoboken residents to distribute Disaster Supplemental Nutritional Assistance Program Food Stamps, according to a city release.
Residents who are not currently SNAP/Food Stamp recipients and suffered hurricane-related losses may apply for the benefits.
Those with the last name beginning with letters between A-L are asked to apply between 9 a.m. – 12 p.m. Residents with the last names beginning with letters between M-Z are asked to go to the Multi-Service Center between 1 p.m. and 3:30 p.m.
The payment is not for existing recipients of food stamps, and is a one time payment on an ATM-like card that can be used at grocery stores for certain food purchases, according to the release.

The Hoboken Shelter is also accepting donations.
The shelter is short on toilet paper, cups, paper plates, and napkins. Residents may bring donated items to the shelter (300 Bloomfield St.) from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. on weekdays and 3 p.m. and 9 p.m. on weekends. – Ray Smith
