Upcoming events at the Hoboken Historical Museum

Sun., Sept. 25, 2-5 pm: Opening reception for “Unfolding Landscapes: Books and Boxes by Barbara Mauriello.” Local artist Barbara Mauriello learned traditional techniques of bookbinding the old-fashioned way, through an apprenticeship. Now her skills are in high demand to produce limited editions of special art books or to restore antique books. Over the years, she’s expanded her craft to create innovative book shapes and decorative boxes, many of which will be on display in the Museum’s Upper Gallery through Nov. 6. She returns for a talk and demonstration on Oct. 2 at 4 pm. The opening reception and talk are free.
Sun., Oct. 2, 12 – 3 pm: The 7th Annual Hoboken Pet Parade & Fair* returns after a one-year hiatus. It moves uptown to Maxwell Place Park and Pier, and will feature costume contests, talent competitions, and local pet service professionals dispensing free advice and demonstrations. Plus, the Hoboken Dog Association will sponsor an AKC Responsible Dog Owner Day, and Liberty Humane Society will bring some adoptable pets. The event is free.
Sun., Oct. 9, 12 – 4 pm: Fall Family Fun Day. Education curator Robin Westervelt is planning another fun-filled day of hands-on, sweets-related activities for families. More details to come. The event is free.
Sun., Oct. 16, 1 – 5 pm: Fourth Annual Heirloom Garlic Festival*. Tomato-festival suppliers from Catalpa Ridge farms return with heirloom garlic varieties. Stop by for free samples of sliced garlic and recipes made from “the stinking rose.” The event is free, and there will be fall produce for sale.
Sun., Oct. 23, 10 am – 4 pm: The Hoboken House Tour* commemorates the Museum’s 25th anniversary by featuring encore appearances by a few fan-favorite homes that have starred in past tours. Tours are self-guided, starting from the Museum. Tickets are $25 in advance; $30 on the day of the tour ($25 for members).
Fri., Nov. 4, 7 pm: The 25th Anniversary GalaPalooza, at the W Hotel Hoboken, will be our biggest event of the year, with dancing to live music, an open bar and tasty hors d’oeuvres, plus our exciting annual live auction of one-of-a-kind packages and experiences. It will be a fun and elegant evening; a chance to celebrate the Museum’s long history and help secure its future. More details to come.
