LONGEVITY RUNS IN THE FAMILY!

Legendary Guttenberg advertiser Harold Harrison began his family business in 1941, with pride. Originally from Jersey City, he was living in North Bergen then and is now deceased. The firm was taken over by Daryl Harrison-Rand, and in June, 2010 the family’s third generation joined the firm. Daryl’s sons Jason Rand and David Rand are now running the firm with their loving mother, whom they adore, and the firm has entered its 70th year as a business entity in the Town of Guttenberg. This also means that the business has been in business during the tenure of every mayor of Guttenberg from the legendary Mayor Herman Klein, now deceased, to the well-admired legal mind of present Mayor Gerald Drasheff.
David, the spokesman for the family, said that he achieved a bachelor’s degree in advertising in 2000, and that his brother Jason achieved a bachelor’s degree in Fine Arts from Tufts University in 1991 in Massachusetts, and also a B.S.A. from the School of Visual Arts in New York City. As for their mother Daryl, she has a bachelor’s degree from the University of Oklahoma.
David mentioned that his cousin Nicole Harrison is married to former Union City Mayor and State Assemblyman Rudy Garcia. Nicole’s father Allan is the brother of his grandfather Harold, and is from Jersey City. David said that his mother Daryl is vice chair for the Hudson County Chamber of Commerce, and was honored in 2009 for being “A Living Legend in Business.” Daryl and grandfather Harold were inducted into the New Jersey Advertising Hall of Fame in 2008 and in 1986. Daryl has been married to Dr. Melvin Rand for 49 years this coming November, 2011 and for all the young women out there, the sons are single!
This business trio has taken pleasure trips to Europe, South and Central America, Japan, Africa, Canada, and Mexico. They also like all types of music. Moreover, the organization called the Children’s Hope of India will honor Dr. Melvin and Daryl Rand for their humanitarian assistance in the near future.
David also told us that their company is a finalist for the New Jersey Family Business of the Year Award in October, 2011. Their firm has won 19 awards from various other industry groups, and too many to mention here.
This advertising company has been so active in the North Hudson County community, and has been written-up many times in the press, that to write a story on them from another perspective was delightful, and working along with their administrative secretary Kim Ten Cate was a pleasure.
To the HarrisonRand Advertising company: onward for another 30 years, for a full 100 year celebration, and All The Best!

We hear that Union City Deputy Mayor Nicholas Mastorelli has been under the weather and has been recuperating from a recent illness. His lovely wife Janice tells us that by the time you read this, he should be up and around town again. Let’s go Nick, can’t keep “The Whizzer” down for long!

Alicia Lupkovich of Secaucus has been named to the Dean’s List at Berkeley College in Morris County in New Jersey. Congrats to you, Ms. Lupkovich!

Reverend Mr. Jose Garzon has been assigned to the Diaconal Ministry at Holy Redeemer Parish in West New York, and Reverend Mr. Jeivi Hercules has been assigned to Diaconal Ministry at Saint Rocco/Saint Brigid Parish in Union City and North Bergen respectively, announced Archbishop John J. Myers of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Newark. Best wishes Deacons Garzon and Hercules!

Kudos for former Hudson County Freeholder Francis “Frank” Pizzuta and his daughter, Holly. Daddy and Daughter are both active in their hometown of Weehawken. The father is a member of the Township Board of Education, and the daughter is a trustee of the Township Free Public Library. We hear good things being said about what a nice community-active family they are. Bravo!

Hudson County Surrogate-Judge Donald DeLeo of North Bergen will give one of his free and informative seminars to members of the Colgate Retirees Club. This seminar is entitled “New Information on Wills, Living Wills, Living Trusts, and Stories from your Hudson County Surrogate’s Court.” The seminar will be held on Monday, Sept. 19 at 9:30 a.m., at the Masonic Lodge, at 888 Avenue C in Bayonne. We hear that Bayonne Mayor Mark Smith may just stop by to say hello to his friend Judge DeLeo. We also hear that accompanying Mayor Smith will be his father-in-law and political net-working dynamo Neil Carroll, carrying with him his imported Irish Shillelagh walking stick. For further information regarding the seminar, call (201) 795-6378. Have a great educational time! And away we go!

And so it goes … until next time …see you around town …MATT.
