Weehawken cleans up after Irene

Residents, municipal workers, and utility employees continued cleanup efforts last week in the aftermath of Hurricane Irene’s sweep through the region. The storm didn’t live up to the worst conditions predicted, but did cause flooding in low-lying areas.
The excessive rainfall caused the Hackensack River and Mill Creek in Secaucus to flood their banks. And a 60-year-old North Bergen man died after sustaining head injuries from a fall while clearing the gutters of his house in preparation for the storm.
Weehawken saw slippery streets and downed trees. These photos were taken by residents Robert and Angela de Zeeuw.
