Up to 2,000 were still without power on Tuesday
PS&EG reported that as many as 2,000 residents of Hudson County were without power as of press time on Tuesday, due to Hurricane Irene. Towns were still clearing up flooding and downed trees.
The town of Secaucus reported having had to rescue people by boat when the Hackensack River flooded.
Two storm-related deaths were reported. A 60-year-old North Bergen man died from injuries after he fell Saturday night while clearing leaves out of his gutter in preparation for the storm. Also, a postal worker in Kearny died after leaving his flooded car and accidentally walking into deep floodwaters near a hidden storm drain.
Weather forecasters were predicting another possible storm to come – Hurricane Katia – but as of Tuesday it was far in the South Atlantic and its eventual track was unknown.
