Dancin’ in the streets

Thousands of Boricuas and Boricuas at heart danced in the streets last weekend as part of the city’s two-day Puerto Rican Heritage Festival and Parade. Like the city’s other ethnic festivals, this one was also centered around food and music, but with a distinctly Afro-Cuban-Taíno Indian flavor.
The festival got underway at Exchange Place downtown on Saturday with two days full of games, food, and attractions for kids. The parade – the weekend’s highlight – capped off the festivities on Sunday with a procession from the Lincoln Park neighborhood to Grove Street downtown.
This was the 51st year the Puerto Rican Heritage Festival and Parade has been celebrated in Jersey City.
