HUDSON COUNTY — The city of Jersey City — perhaps remembering the sadness that occurred in Louisiana when people had to give up their family pets to enter shelters from Hurricane Katrina — explained on their website that the Liberty Humane Society shelter will be safeguarding the animals in the shelter and can move them if need be. The city also gave information to residents who will need to evacuate their pets or find shelter for them. The city also offered tips for pet owners.
(Be sure to place identification tags on your pet should he/she become frightened and escape, or get lost in the shuffle.)
The city noted, “If needed, Jersey City Animal Control Division is prepared to accommodate their evacuation needs as well as residents with pets by using the Jersey City Office of Emergency Management Mobile Animal Rescue trailer. This trailer will be hooked up to an animal control vehicle and will remove any at risk animals to higher ground.”
