NEW JERSEY — At approximately 1:54 p.m., several locations in New Jersey, including Hoboken, reported feeling the ground shaking from an earthquake. News reports confirmed that the quake was felt along the East Coast from Virginia to Upstate New York.
According to ABC news, the quake measured 5.8 on the Richter scale. Later reports quoted government agencies as recording the quake at 5.9.
People as far west as Michigan and as far north as Syracuse, N.Y. have reported feeling the quake.
The U.S. Capitol and the Pentagon in Washington, D.C. were evacuated, according to news reports.
