WADDLETON, DANIEL J

A mass of Christian burial was offered Aug. 15 at St. Joseph’s Church for Daniel J. Waddleton, 69, of Barnegat, formerly of Jersey City. He passed away Aug. 10 at Palisade General Hospital after suffering a stroke. Born in Jersey City, he was an outstanding basketball player at St. Michael’s H.S. in Union City, Dan was named to the first High School All American Team (1960) and later went on to captain the St. John’s University basketball team to the NIT finals (1962). A Hudson County Sports Hall of Fame inductee, he also coached the Dickinson Boys basketball team. After college Dan worked for G.M. in the Boston area before returning to Jersey City to start a teaching career. He taught at Dickinson H.S. and Ferris for many years before becoming a guidance counselor. Dan served as a councilman in Jersey City from 89 – 93’. Surviving are his wife Josefina (Ocmarez), his children Karen, Daniel J. Jr., George, John and step-son Orlando Trinidad, as well as his sisters Sarah Murray, June Touhy and Bernadette Stoebling. He is predeceased by his siblings George J., Richard, Mary Ann Jencarelli, Rose Mc Quillian and Kathleen Cook. Services arranged by the McLaughlin Funeral Home, Jersey City.
