SECAUCUS BRIEFS

Annual Labor Day blood drive Sept 3

The blood centers are in short supply and the Labor Day weekend is a very tough weekend on local hospitals and blood centers. The Secaucus Knights of Columbus Council 12769 will hold their annual Labor Day Blood Drive on Sept 3. Anyone over the age of 18, at least 105 pounds and in good health can donate. The drive is being held in the parking lot of Immaculate Conception Church at 760 Post Place from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Contact Neal to schedule a time at 201-223-7967 or email: mcgarritye@aol.com.

Social Services seeks volunteers

The Secaucus Department of Social Services seeks volunteers to spend time with homebound seniors. People wishing to help could play a game of cards, read to a senior or socialize with them for a few hours. Volunteers are not there to cook, clean or do laundry. They have many people who are lonely and would love some company. Please call Patt or Lisa at 201-330-2014.

Secaucus receives conservation grant

Secaucus will perform energy upgrades to various municipal buildings after securing a second Energy Efficiency and Conservation Block Grant. The town also received another round of funding from Direct Install – an energy incentive program offered by the NJ Clean Energy Program. The combined funding of $133,626.82 will pay for the installation of new light fixtures, boilers, switches, thermostats, and sensors at the DPW Garage, the Senior Center, the MUA, and Fire House No. 3.
These upgrades are projected to save taxpayers over $15,660 in the first year of operation alone. The first round of funding paid for upgrades at the Municipal Ice Rink, Animal Shelter, and DPW Garage. Work for the second phase of installation is not yet scheduled but should begin in the near future.
