Mayor Zimmer calls for special Hoboken council meeting

HOBOKEN – Mayor Dawn Zimmer has called for a special meeting of the council this Thursday, Aug. 18, at 7 p.m. to address issues arising from the sale of Hoboken University Medical Center and the bankruptcy filing of its operator.
On the agenda includes the affirmation of a contract for Okin, Hollander & Deluca, LLP for services as special legal counsel to represent the city in the bankruptcy filings involving HUMC and its now bankrupt operator, Hudson Healthcare Inc. The firm has already filed paperwork in court on the city’s behalf. The mayor is permitted to hire a firm on an emergency basis, but she will ask the council to affirm the emergency contract on Thursday.
Also on the agenda is a resolution to approve a settlement agreement between the city, the Hoboken Municipal Hospital Authority, and the HHI. The city and parking utility are creditors in the HHI bankruptcy, and are owed nearly $2 million combined.
The council will also likely enter executive session to discuss pending litigation relating to the sale of the hospital and the bankruptcy.
