Weehawken library director retires

Phillip R. Greco, director of the Weehawken Free Public Library, has retired effective June 30 after 17 years of service, Mayor Richard F. Turner announced on Wednesday.
“Mr. Greco has served as Library Director since 1994,” the mayor said. “During his tenure, he has overseen the library transformation into the facility we have today, has spearheaded the growth of programs, and has expanded services almost unimagined decades ago.”
Holly L. Pizzuta, a former member of the Weehawken Library Board of Trustees, has accepted the position of librarian, director of operations and administration to replace Greco. Kelly Fitzgerald will remain as the librarian, director of services and programs.

Weehawken hosts Family Fun Night

Tuesday, Aug. 16 is Family Fun Night at the Weehawken Waterfront Complex, sponsored by Mayor Richard F. Turner and the Township Council. The event will be open from 6 – 9 p.m., to Weehawken residents only, and offer face painting, games, contests and more for kids ages 4-15. A shuttle bus will operate throughout town to bring participants to the waterfront. Call the Recreation Office at (201) 319-6061 or visit www.weehawken-nj.us for the schedule.

Free supplies, screenings for the needy in local towns

Dvine Konektion will host an event Saturday, Aug. 20 from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. called Community Outreach Day. It takes place 5516 Jefferson St. in West New York. Participants must be residents of West New York, Guttenberg, North Bergen, Union City or Weehawken.
The day will include distribution of groceries, baby items such as diapers and wipes, school supplies, new and gently used clothing, free diabetes, cholesterol, blood, and glaucoma screenings, and more.
