Free Health Fair to help highlight National Health Week

North Hudson Community Action Corp., a non-profit that serves the needy population in Hudson County, is sponsoring a free health fair to celebrate National Health Week on Saturday, Aug. 13 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. The event will take place at Miller Park Stadium in West New York.
The health fair will feature free health examinations, medical and nutritional information, free promotional items, face painting for children, and other activities.
“Our responsibility is to make quality health care available to as many people as possible,” said Christopher F. Irizarry, NHCAC President and Chief Executive Officer. “We urge everyone to come out, take advantage of these free opportunities and have some fun while doing it.”

North Bergen welcomes eight new police officers

On Tuesday Aug. 2, North Bergen had a swearing-in ceremony to welcome in eight newly-hired police officers. The new recruits had all successfully completed police academy training and took their oaths of office before family, friends, and department personnel.
“I’m proud to welcome these outstanding young men and woman to our police department,” said Mayor Nicholas Sacco. “Each of them possesses the tireless dedication to the safety of our community that we demand from our police, and I’m happy to see them begin their careers in law enforcement.

Bus will take local residents to German Alps Festival

The German-American World Historical Society is sponsoring a one-day bus trip to the “German Alps Festival” at Hunter Mountain, N.Y. on Aug. 14.
The bus will leave at 8 a.m. from the Senator Lounge in Schuetzen Park. Prices run at $43 for adults and $34 for children ages 4 to 12. Amenities include round-trip transportation, admission to the festival, and refreshments on the bus.

North Bergen boxer wins big fight

U ndefeated North Bergen boxer heavyweight Mariusz Wach took down Kevin McBride with a one-punch knockout last Friday, July 29 at a fight in the Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Conn. McBride is known for ending the career of heavyweight legend Mike Tyson with a TKO in 2005.
Wach, whose record rose to an impressive 25-0, is reportedly being considered to face world heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko in November.
