JERSEY CITY BRIEFS

Firearms accessories shop to open in Jersey City

Looking for a special-ops ready-fire shotgun ammo pouch ($34.99), or a muzzle break for an AK-47 ($8.49 to $13.99)? If so, Jersey City may have just the place for you.
Just weeks after Jersey City held a successful gun buyback program, a new retail store, First Line Tactical, is preparing to make its debut on Palisades Avenue.
According to the company’s web site, First Line specializes in the retail sale of “tactical gear and firearms accessories…All First Line Tactical brand products have been rigorously field tested, and all products are quality checked by our staff prior to shipping.”
But soon Jersey City residents who are in a hurry to get their hands on iron gun sights ($36.99) won’t have to order online. Beginning Aug. 11, they’ll be able to visit 353 Palisade Avenue to do their shopping.
Various city officials said Thursday that so long as First Line isn’t selling firearms the business is within its legal rights.
“The reality of it is, we may have our personal feelings about it, but as long as they meet all of the legal standards, we have no option other than to hope that they have the best of intentions, and are cautious about who they do business with,” said Jersey City Police Chief Tom Comey.
Chief Comey said he has visited First Line’s web site.
The Jersey City Heights storefront will be the first east coast location for First Line Tactical, which is based in Texas.

Petition to save events in Grove Plaza

I n response to complaints about noise from the residents of the Grove Pointe high rise near the Grove Street PATH Station, the future of such events as Groove on Grove, Creative Grove, and the Farmer’s Market is in jeopardy. But others argue that these events are popular attractions within the vibrant downtown Jersey City culture.
The Historic Downtown Special Improvement District and Arts In Action, Inc. has been working to revitalize the downtown corridor as a shopping and entertainment hub and wants the events to continue. The organizers of these events are now asking residents to support Groove on Grove, Creative Grove, and the Farmer’s Market by signing an online petition at
