Sex crime leads to harsh sentence

A Bayonne father convicted of raping his 7-year-old daughter was sentenced to 50 years in jail by a Hudson County Superior Court Judge Sheila Venable recently. The man was convicted in January for sexually abusing his daughter over several years. Because he had a previous conviction for child abuse, the man will not be eligible for parole.

Benefit for Dawid Strucinski

Although still not able to speak after a brutal beating on Broadway last month, Dawid Strucinski has made significant progress. Doctors are starting him on solid foods, and he’s expected to begin walking again after coming out of his coma late last month.
To help with the financial burdens associated with the medical bills, friends are holding a second fundraiser on Saturday, Aug. 6, from 1 to 6 p.m. at the Elks Lodge, 354 Broadway.
The cost is $20 per person, $10 for children, and the admission covers tap beer, wine, soda, and food. T-shirts will be on sale for $15 and wrist bands for $5.

Contractor falls from roof in Bayonne

A West Milford private contractor hired to clean gutters and install skylights at a home on West 40th Street fell off the ladder for a two and a half story plunge to the front lawn – and survived without serious injury.
Deputy Police Chief Ralph Scianni said officers arrived at the house at 9:28 a.m. Thursday morning to find the man on the ground with bruises and cuts on one side of his face and complaining about back, neck, and other pains.
A 54-year-old resident of West Milford, the contractor was rushed to Jersey City Medical Center, where he was examined and found to have not suffered any life-threatening injuries, Scianni said.
The police notified the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) and the Bayonne Building Department, Scianni said.
