Report: Hoboken man arrested in upstate New York over alleged coins and life insurance scam

HOBOKEN – New York State Police arrested a 24-year-old Hoboken man last week after he allegedly took money from a 70-year-old woman and promised to sell her gold coins, but never actually purchased the insurance or sold the coins, according to a report in the Albany Times Union.
According to multiple reports, the 24-year-old man, was arrested on July 21 and charged with second-degree grand larceny and third-degree grand larceny.
Aleman allegedly found the victim through an old business contact and gained the woman’s confidence, according to the report. She gave him $60,000 in gold coins to sell for an agreed price and another $15,000 to purchase a life insurance plan for her.
The man allegedly kept the coins and the cash, according to the reports.
He was arrested at the Schenectady Amtrak station after he tried to meet with the alleged victim, the report said.
