Hoboken hospital will not receive $11M in federal funds

HOBOKEN – Hoboken University Medical Center will not receive $11 million in federal funding it expected to get this year, according to Gov. Christopher Christie’s Fiscal Year 2012 Budget Summary, which can be viewed in its entirety here.

A deal to sell Hoboken University Medical Center (HUMC) to a private entity, HUMC Holdco, LLC, was recently approved by the Hoboken Municipal Hospital Authority, but the sale is not final, as the state Department of Health needs to issue a Certificate of Need to the applicant. To read more about the sale, see links below.

“The hospital, once government owned, is being sold to a non-governmental entity and, pursuant to federal rules, no longer will be eligible to receive these matching funds,” according to the budget summary.

Mayor Dawn Zimmer has said that selling the hospital will save the facility, as she said it can no longer stay viable as a stand-alone facility.
