A funeral service took place June 23 at Mt. Pisgah A.M.E. Church for Shirley M. Silver, 63. She died suddenly June 16 at her home. A lifelong Jersey City resident, she graduated with a Bachelor of Science Degree in early childhood education from New Jersey City University, when it was Jersey City State Teachers College. She then received her Masters Degree in Special Education also from NJCU. She was a lead teacher with the Jersey City Board of Education for the last six years and currently was a graduate school adjunct professor in special education at NJCU. She was also teaching parenting classes for the Jersey City Child Abuse Organization. Prior to that, she was a disability service manager for Project Head Start with the Jersey City Child Development Center. Predeceased by her mother, Alice Pinkney Jennings in 2009, she leaves to cherish her memory, her father, Slater Jennings, her children, Richard W. Silver and Alicia Silver, her grandchildren, Jared Blackwell and Alisyn Knox Silver, her siblings, Dr. George Harold Jennings, Linda Smith and Keith Jennings, her aunt, Elizabeth Jennings and her special adopted daughter Ruth Hypolite.
