A Hoboken Tradition: Baseball and Playwriting

Dear Editor:
Last weekend, Mile Square Theatre presented its 9th Annual “7th Inning Stretch: 7 10-minute plays about baseball.” We again commissioned 7 plays by 7 playwrights and premiered them at our home at the Monroe Theatrespace. “The Stretch” has become a great tradition in Hoboken and we’re proud to honor our fair city’s historic claim as the birthplace of baseball by premiering plays on the subject by some of America’s best playwrights. The funds raised support scholarships in our education programs and will help fund the rest of the season. We wish to thank all of the theatre artists who volunteered to make it a spectacular production and to thank the 2011 “7th Inning Stretch” sponsors; Bayonne Community Bank, Boutique Realty, Hair Cult, hMag, Hoboken Brownstone, The Hudson Reporter, K9kergarten, The Monroe Center for the Arts, Paula Ohaus, and Frank ‘Pupie’ Raia. Please join us later in the year for our production of “God of Carnage” and our holiday show.
