Union City art exhibit

The June art exhibit at the Union City Art Gallery at City Hall features work by Bolivar E. Sotomayor, Walter Barco, and Claudio Pacheco.
A reception will be held Thursday, June 23 at 6 p.m. It will feature a book presentation by author and artist Dielka.
The event is organized by the Union City Artist Collective and Union City Art Gallery Curator Amado Mora.
City Hall is located at 38th street and Palisade Avenue.

Development breaks ground on Kennedy Blvd.

If you see construction nearby on Kennedy Blvd., it may be AvalonBay.
The planned apartment development broke ground on Wednesday, June 15. Located at 56th street and Kennedy Boulevard in North Bergen, the community will consist of 164 rental units and 17,000 square feet of retail space. It is within walking distance of a light rail station.
The development is projected to create 160 construction jobs within the next year, as well as 60 permanent jobs upon completion, which is expected in spring 2012.

Book reading about Meadowlands

Thomas F Yezerski will be hosting a free talk and reading of his children’s book “Meadowlands” at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, June 25. The book is about the history of the Meadowlands through the eyes of Yezerski as a kid and adult. The event will be at the NJMC’s Meadowlands Environment Center in DeKorte Park at Two De Korte Park plaza in Lyndhurst.
