Hudson County ranks 14th for kids

HUDSON COUNTY — A non-profit group called Advocates for Children in New Jersey just released its annual “Kids Count” rankings of kids’ well being, by county. Hudson County came in at 14th out of 21 counties, which was up from 18th last year.
The survey checks the percentage of kids in poverty, teenagers giving birth, and other matters.
Hunterdon County came in first and Cumberland came in last.
The group says that 23 percent of Hudson’s kids are in poverty. The state average was 13 percent.
Hudson families pay the second highest percentage of income on rent in the state.
According to a release, “Hudson also saw improvements in its unemployment rate, the percentage of women receiving early prenatal care, children in foster care and juvenile arrests.”
