Hudson County ranks high nationally for property taxes

Hudson County was recently ranked eighth nationally in the percentage of household income that goes to pay property taxes, according to a group called the Tax Foundation. The foundation, a tax advocacy group, examined U.S. census data for most of the counties in the nation.
According to the foundation, the median amount of taxes paid on a home in Hudson County each year is $6,085, which is 7.28 percent of the median household income of $83,561.
The first 10 counties on the list are all in New Jersey and New York. Passaic, Essex, Bergen and Union were first, second, third, and fourth on the list.
The group examined U.S. Census data for nearly all of the nation’s 3,139 counties, except for 200 small counties.

Local RFPs will now be available in statewide database

Legislation has been approved that was recently sponsored by Assembly members Ruben J. Ramos, Jr. (D-33rd Dist.), Annette Quijano, and Wayne P. DeAngelo to create an internet database to provide the public with an easily accessible source of current information on local requests for proposals. Governments send out RFP’s in order to get the best and lowest bids for services and projects.
The measure was part of the Legislature’s “Back to Work NJ” job creation and economic development initiative.
“It’s important that we provide contractors and small businesses with a simple, effective means of actively searching through the hundreds of public contracts that are put out to bid,” said Ramos, who represents Hoboken, Weehawken, Union City, Guttenberg, and part of Jersey City. “Doing so will help these contractors get back on sound financial footing and hasten our state’s economic recovery.”
