A day before swearing in, elected West New York leaders say outgoing Mayor Vega wants to appoint cronies to school system

WEST NEW YORK – The political group in West New York that just won all five seats on the Board of Commissioners issued a press release on Monday saying that at a board meeting that night, allies of outgoing Mayor Sal Vega planned to appoint Vega’s allies to wasteful positions in the school system.
The release said: “The Board of Education is planning on having their annual reorganizational meeting where drastic resolutions will be passed. Defeated West New York Mayor Sal Vega is looking to appoint some of his political allies prior to the Tuesday swearing in of newly elected Mayor Dr. Felix Roque. There is an agenda that is scheduled to be executed at this meeting, which does not represent the best interest of the residents of West New York; in fact, it will affect the town’s budget contributing to the deficit and prolonging Vega’s administration. The approval of these resolutions will result in a negative impact to the taxpayers and the education of our children. The new elected commissioners are against this practice, and are looking to protest at this meeting. We are asking the press to be present as well as the public to witness the irresponsible decisions this board is about to adopt. “
The release did not get more specific.
The meeting was scheduled for 5 p.m. at PS 4, 6300 Palisade Ave.
