Dear Editor:
Dear Hoboken,
It’s been a long and eventful journey.
I would like to thank the residents of the 6th Ward who voted for me on May 10, in my effort to be re-elected as their Councilman.
I am especially grateful for the help and support of my family, friends and neighbors who worked in so many different ways on my campaign. They devoted their time and personal life to achieving the ultimate goal of making life better for their neighbors. Many of them had relationships with me that existed primarily outside the realm of politics, which makes their efforts that much more appreciated.
It was an honor to serve the residents of the 6th Ward over the last decade, when Hoboken enjoyed so much prosperity and growth. The 6th Ward is an ever changing place, and we welcome new representatives to meet the new challenges that come with its continued evolution.
Although there were many challenges during my tenure as Councilman, there were also many rewards. I had the chance to make Hoboken a better place to live for people I agreed with, and others I didn’t. In the end, there exists today a better Hoboken than the one I started to represent 10 years ago upon my first election. Since then, I have always been diligent in maintaining both my independence in government and respect for my council colleagues, no matter their political perspectives. I hope all the newly elected officials keep the well being of all of Hoboken as foremost a priority in their future service.
Most of all I’d like to thank my wife and children, and mother, who were essentially my campaign staff, along with the invaluable guidance of my campaign manager, Michael Oliva, who shared my belief in maintaining a positive message without giving into the compulsion to respond to negative, and baseless, attacks.
If there is a part of being a councilman I can be most proud of it is my commitment to always remain a positive person, and a positive representative for the 6th Ward and all of Hoboken.
Thank you,
Nino Giacchi
