Funeral mass took place May 11 at St. Francis R.C. Church in Hoboken for Margaret “Peggy” Burke, 69. She passed away May 6 surrounded by her family at Hackensack University Medical Center. Peggy was the mother of Hoboken Police Officer Nicholas Burke and his wife Julia, and John Burke and his wife Lori. A special joy in Peggy’s life were her grandchildren, Joseph Nicholas Jr., Madison, Cloe, and Ryan Burke. Peggy was fortunate to celebrate the joy of her only great-grandchild Joseph Jr. Also surviving are two sisters, Bernadette O’RiellyLando and Judith Kearny. Aside from being predeceased by her husband James, she was also predeceased by a brother Jack Dohertty, and two sisters, Patricia Lambert and Maureen Sheehan. Peggy was born in Jersey City, lived in Hoboken for most of her life, and resided back in Jersey City for the last year. She was a former Hoboken School Teacher, who retired as the Hoboken Tax Collector after a change of careers. Services arranged by the Failla Memorial Home, Hoboken.
