Dear Editor:
At two and a half years old, Liam Witt was diagnosed with stage 4 cancer. The chances for survival were slim and when his parents learned that research for pediatric cancer was underfunded they decided that it was their job to get the funding. They founded Cookies for Kids Cancer as a way to raise funds. People could bake and sell cookies, brownies and other yummy treats and donate the proceeds to pediatric cancer research. When the Hoboken Family Alliance learned about the Witts and their fight we had to get involved. This past Sunday we set up a bake sale booth at the Hoboken Arts and Music festival and sold all types of delicious baked goods throughout the day and blew past our goal of $3500. The response and contributions from the community were overwhelming. We would like to thank all of the businesses that helped us have an extremely successful bake sale. Thank you to Carlo’s Bakery, Old German Bakery, Giorgio’s, Ultramarinos and Cammareri’s Bakery for donating d electable treats to our bake sale. We would also like to thank PNC Bank, Turning Point, Dr. DePaola and OXO for supplying us with great prizes for our raffle. Our location was optimal and set up and breakdown were flawless, so we would like to thank the Hoboken Cultural Affairs office for another job well done. Lastly, we would like to thank our friends, family and the people of Hoboken for showing your support to this very worthy cause. Unfortunately, Liam “the Brave” Witt lost his fight with this horrible disease on January 24, 2011 at the young age of six and a half. Every dollar counts and hopefully one day we will make the big “C” stand for Cookies and not Cancer. To find out more visit www.cookiesforkidscancer.org.
