Hoboken police item: No such thing as saving spots!

HOBOKEN AND BEYOND — Parking is tough in Hoboken, but one woman on Washington Street felt the impact of the parking crunch last week.
Police say a group trying to reserve a coveted downtown parking spot argued with a woman trying to park, and one person reserving the spot had her foot run over in the process.
A 51-year-old North Bergen man was arrested and charged with burglary, theft, criminal mischief, and resisting arrest after he allegedly blocked the parking spot at approximately 6 p.m. on Saturday, April 23, and later allegedly became violent.
A witness said six individuals, including him, were yelling at a woman telling her not to park the car, saying they were holding the spot for someone else. The North Bergen man was allegedly in the street blocking the car, and then reached in and allegedly grabbed the keys from the ignition, broke them, and then threw them on the ground, according to police. In the mayhem, another woman trying to block the spot apparently had her foot run over.
A witness said: “The girl that got hit was basically daring her to run her over,” according to police.
The car was also damaged after the North Bergen man allegedly kicked the door, causing a dent.
After speaking with witnesses, police told the man he would be placed under arrest, but he allegedly refused to comply and became belligerent, according to police. Police say it took three officers to subdue the man, and he was arrested.
The woman who had her foot run over signed a counter complaint the next day.
