HOBOKEN – The long awaited audit of the Hoboken Fire Department has been released.
Among the major responses, Chief Richard Blohm, in a letter to Mayor Dawn Zimmer, offered to close an engine company that responds out of the Observer Highway fire station.
“This decision is supported in the Matrix document which identifies that slower responses by the Fire Department occur because only one Fire Company can exit the Observer Highway Fire Station at a time, causing a slower response through the community,” Blohm said. “This move will alleviate that challenge on our southern end of town.”
The audit calls for the elimination of an engine company while at the same time “up-staffing two others.”
The audit also identifies vacancies, which Blohm said he hopes Zimmer will fill “as soon as possible.”
