Change in traffic patterns near Lincoln Tunnel this week
Beginning on Monday, April 18, traffic patterns will change near the area of North Marginal Street, a connector roadway running parallel to the Route 495 westbound elevated highway leading from the Lincoln Tunnel.
Two traffic lanes will be closed, shifting all traffic into one lane, according to Weehawken Public Safety Director Jeff Welz. The roadway between Boulevard East and Pleasant Street is being repaved. The roadway will be closed daily until Friday between the hours of 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. and all three lanes will reopen at 4 p.m. in time for the evening rush hour.
Although it isn’t a full closure of the roadway, Welz advised that the construction may cause delays and motorists should avoid the area during those times if possible.
HRPAC to hold lunchtime concert on Thursday
On April 21, The Hudson River Performing Arts Center (HRPAC) will present its latest concert in the UBS Atrium Series. MAYA with special guest, Grammy winner Cristina Pato, will perform an afternoon of music from Spain beginning at 12:30 p.m. in the Atrium at 1000 Harbor Blvd. in Weehawken.
MAYA is a unique musical collaboration between percussionist John Hadfield, harpist Bridget Kibbey, and flute player Sato Moughalian. The trio performs both new and traditional music with an emphasis on sounds from different world cultures. For this Atrium concert, MAYA will be joined by Galician bagpiper and Grammy Award winner, Cristina Pato, in a program highlighting music of Galicia and Spain. Pato is internationally acclaimed as a gaita master and musical ambassador, bringing the traditional music of Galicia all over the world with her passionate and virtuosic playing. She is well known as a member of The Silk Road Ensemble, headed by superstar cellist, Yo-Yo Ma.

Weehawken Elks present vendors night
On April 21 from 6:30 p.m. to 10:30 p.m., the Weehawken Elks will hold Weehawken Elks Vendors Night at the Lodge, located at 2 50th St.
The evening is a great opportunity to make gift purchases for events such as Mother’s Day, Easter, and upcoming graduations.
Some of the vendors planning to attend are All American Engraving, LA Fitness, Pandora, Avon, Girl Scout Cookies SPArties, Shaklee Products, and Willow Tree. Other vendors will be selling candles, designer handbags, jewelry, and more.
Admission is free and light refreshments will be served.

Egg Hunt to be held next weekend
Weehawken’s Annual Easter Egg Hunt will be held on April 23 at 11 a.m. at Louisa Park on Boulevard East. The egg hunt is for children ages 3 to 8. There will be prizes, balloons, and photos with the Easter Bunny and his friends. In case of bad weather, the Easter Egg Hunt will be held inside the Weehawken High School Gym (Highwood Avenue entrance). The Egg Hunt, sponsored by Mayor Richard Turner and the Township Council, is for Weehawken Residents only; proof of residency is required. Public invited to reminisce at the next Woman’s Club meeting
On Monday, April 25, the Weehawken’s Woman’s Club will hold their regular monthly meeting with a special presentation.
All are invited to take a walk down memory lane with Ruth and Max Elsasser as they present videos of the waterfront taken in the 1950s when the old ferries were still running.
The group will gather around 7:15 p.m. and the meeting will begin at 7:30 p.m. in the Nutrition Center, 210 Highwood Ave. For more information, email atelierclk@gmail.com.
Get into nature with the NJMC
Each month, the New Jersey Meadowlands Commission (NJMC) holds various environmental events open to the public and for those who haven’t attended one yet, this spring is the perfect time to get outside and get in touch with nature.
On April 17 at 1 p.m., Birding for Beginners, a free two-hour class on birding basics will be held at the Meadowlands Environment Center in Lyndhurst at 1 p.m., followed by a 90-minute walk in surrounding DeKorte Park.
On April 19 at 10 a.m., NJMC and the Bergen County Audubon Society (BCAS) will hold their Third-Tuesday-of-the-Month Bird Walk at the legendary Harrier Meadow in North Arlington. The 70-acre site, usually off limits to the public, features ponds, tidal impoundments and birds aplenty. The group will meet at 10 a.m. at the entrance to Harrier Meadow on Disposal Road.
On April 20 at 8 p.m., Jim Wright will present ‘Birds of the Meadowlands,’ a free talk and slide show at the Meadowlands Environment Center in DeKorte Park in Lyndhurst.
And the public is invited to celebrate Earth Day on April 22 with the Earth Day Bird Walk sponsored by the NJMC and BCAS. This free two-hour nature walk is part of NJMC’s Earth Day celebration at DeKorte Park in Lyndhurst. The walk starts outside the Meadowlands Environment Center and runs from 10 a.m.
