ROGERS, CHARLES D

Charles D. Rogers, 84, originally of Weehawken, late of Barnegat, passed away at his home on April 6. Rogers was raised in Weehawken, graduating from Weehawken H.S. in 1944. Following graduation, he enlisted in the service and served his country during the close of World War II. He was an aerial photographer in the 9th Air Force Aerial Recognizance. Rogers received a Bachelor’s and Master’s Degree in Education from Montclair State University. He taught chemistry at Barnegat H.S. and at Weehawken H.S., where he also coached basketball and baseball. A passionate educator, Rogers went on to become Principal of Woodrow Wilson School in Weehawken. In 1977, he moved his family to Manahawkin and became Director of Guidance at Mater Dei H.S. and later became Director of Education at both Woodbine and New Lisbon Developmental Centers. He ended his career in education at Georgian Court College in Lakewood, where he acted as a Student Teacher Supervisor. He was the son of Charles and Margaret Rogers and was predeceased by his brother Vincent and sisters Mildred and Gertrude. He is survived by his sister Julia Minucci of Boca Raton, Fla. He was husband to Adele Rogers and father to Timothy, Beth Ann, Christian and Steven. He was also a grandfather to Willow Brown. He was a faithful communicant of St. Mary’s Church, Barnegat, and a lifelong, loyal fan of the New York Mets and New York Giants. Rogers enjoyed time at home with his family and traveling with his wife, particularly to France. Services arranged by the Barnegat Funeral Home, (609)-660-8282.
