Alleged burglar with cocaine was just on way to grandma’s
After allegedly smashing three car windows on Monroe Street and attempting to break into a few more cars in the surrounding area, Nicholas Carter, 24, of North Bergen was arrested and charged with criminal attempted burglary, criminal mischief, burglary, and possession of cocaine on April 6. But even though it was after midnight, he said he was on the way to his grandmother’s house.
A resident called police at approximately 12:30 a.m. on April 6 and said he saw a male allegedly breaking into vehicles on the 500 block of 11th Street. Cops say they followed a man fitting the description as he walked south on Madison Street and then east onto 10th Street, where he allegedly attempted to open the doors of three more parked vehicles. Police then stopped the man to ask what he was doing, and he said he was just on his way to his grandmother’s house.
Police say Carter allegedly had cocaine in his possession, and was transferred to headquarters for processing.
Passenger allegedly assaults cabbie near PATH
An angry passenger apparently had a dispute over a fare with a 43-year-old male taxi driver.
Destrie Boyar, 30, of Monroe Street, wanted the taxi driver to take him to two locations on April 3 at approximately 4 a.m., according to police. But police say the driver and Boyar couldn’t agree on a fare, and that’s when the situation allegedly turned violent.
The victim said Boyar reached through the glass partition and allegedly punched him, and when they both exited the cab, the cabbie said he was punched several more times, according to police. Police say that the driver’s eye was swollen shut when they responded to the scene.
The incident, which police say took place in the area of Hudson and Newark streets, resulted in the taxi driver being transported to Hoboken University Medical Center.
Boyar was charged with aggravated assault.
Three men in hoods attack pedestrian at Third and Willow
A Hoboken man was walking near the area of Third Street and Willow Avenue in the early morning hours of April 4 when three men in black hooded sweatshirts reportedly attacked him, according to police.
The victim said the three attackers began to fight him “for no reason,” punching and kicking him. After the attack, the group fled west on Third Street.
The victim refused medical attention and didn’t wish to file any further complaints, and chose to just go home.
Like a good neighbor…we’ll call the cops
A man on vacation received some help from his neighbors when his apartment was apparently ransacked on the 1200 block of Bloomfield Street last weekend.
The residence was broken into sometime between April 1 at 7:30 p.m. and April 3 at 4 p.m., according to police.
The man who resides in the house was out of town, but when neighbors saw damage to the front door, they called police. The door, as well as the vestibule area, was damaged, and all three floors of the home were reportedly burglarized. Police were unable to determine exactly what was stolen from the home as of last week.
Police planned to interview the victim in police headquarters.
Laptop, camera, and watch stolen from midtown Jefferson Street resident
A midtown resident came home at 7 p.m. on April 4 to find his Toshiba laptop, Sony digital camera, and a wristwatch missing from his bedroom.
Police met with the victim, a 24-year-old male from the 600 block of Jefferson Street, who said he left his house at 6:30 a.m. Upon his arrival home that night, he noticed his apartment was burglarized.
The victim said that he locked the deadbolt on his door. When he returned, it was unlocked, according to police.
The case is still being investigated by the Hoboken Police Department.
Downtown Clinton Street apt. burglarized
Three laptop computers were reportedly stolen from an apartment on the 200 block of Clinton Street on Monday, April 4, some time between 10 a.m. and about 7 p.m.
Police say it appears that the burglar entered the building through the garage, and then entered the apartment after breaking through a deadbolt locked door.
Police say the incident is still under investigation.
