Funeral mass was offered April 1 at St. Nicholas RC Church for Michael J. McCarthy, Jr., 63. He died peacefully at his home in Mahwah on March 28. Michael was born in Jersey City, the son of Betty (nee Colby) and the late Michael McCarthy Sr. He was a retired detective for the JCPD after giving 25 years of service to the people of Jersey City. He was the former chief of security for Sabrett in Jersey City. Michael was U.S. Army Vietnam veteran serving his country from 1966 to 1972. Michael was a member of the Blue Knights of Bergen County, VFW of Jersey City and the American Legion. He was the husband of Patricia (Magrella) McCarthy; son of Betty (nee Colby) McCarthy; father of Sharyn A. McCarthy and her fiancé Edward, and Michael B. McCarthy and his wife Heather; brother of Gerard McCarthy; grandfather of Payton and Casey McCarthy. He is also survived by nieces and nephews and brother and sister-in-laws.
