A funeral mass was held April 1 at St. John the Baptist R. C. Church for Phillip E. Holmes, 65. He passed away at Christ Hospital on March 27. Phillip was born in Houston, Texas, and has resided in Jersey City for the past 23 years. He was employed for over 20 years by the city of Jersey City as a Program Monitor, retiring in 2010. Phillip was an Army veteran, having served in Germany during the Vietnam Era. He was a communicant of St. John the Baptist Church and was very active in church functions. Phillip was the husband of Ada (nee Melendez) Holmes; father of Joseph P. Holmes and Adrianne S. K. Holmes; brother of John H. Holmes; and grandfather of Jordan and Isaiah Sears. Phillip was predeceased by his parents, the late Nellie and Wilber Holmes and is also survived by many nieces and nephews. Services arranged by the McLaughlin Funeral Home, Jersey City.
