Dear Editor:
I am writing to express my support for Councilman Michael Russo. I normally won’t write a letter to a newspaper but I am a longtime reader of the Hoboken Reporter and was disturbed to read some of the vicious things that have been said about Michael Russo and I feel the need to respond.
In all the years that I have been living in the 3rd ward I have always found Michael to be a straightforward, honest person of high personal integrity. To see some of the terrible things that his opponent, Mr. Lincoln has been saying is just beyond the pale. There is no reason to be so negative in a campaign. If you want people to vote for you, you should give them a reason to vote for you, not tear down your opponent.
I have never seen Mr. Lincoln at any of the important events of the past 10 years. When Michael Russo was fighting to save the hospital, Mr. Lincoln was nowhere to be found, and when our community rallied to save Madison Street Park, Mr. Lincoln was nowhere to be found. I don’t remember seeing Mr. Lincoln at any meeting to stop the move of the municipal garage to our neighborhood.
I think Michael Russo has a real record to run on. He got streets paved that were full of potholes and cleaned up empty lots that were an eyesore. Not to mention that he provides physical therapy for seniors and the kids on the Hoboken High School sports teams for free. This is not something he has to do for his job as a councilman. I believe he does it because he loves the people who live in our city and in our ward.
You can spread all the rumors you want Mr. Lincoln, if you’re not going to run on a record or propose anything for our ward, then you won’t get my vote and you won’t get the vote of many people in the 3rd ward.
Sincerely,
Angela Francolino
