Wall Street Journal writes about State Sen./Union City Mayor Stack’s relationship with Gov. Christie

HUDSON COUNTY — Local State Sen./Union City Mayor Brian Stack, a Democrat, is among a handful of local Democrats who have expressed support of Republican Gov. Chris Christie, despite some of Christie’s controversial proposals.
Now the Wall Street Journal is writing about the relationship.
In a story posted on-line on Thursday afternoon, the newspaper notes that Stack “has built a nearly bulletproof political operation in the decade since becoming mayor.”
And Stack has angered other Democrats, including when “He withheld his vote on a push by Democrats to investigate an embarrassing Christie administration scandal over a flubbed bid to win $400 million in federal education funds.”
The WSJ points out that this year, Stack happened to receive from the state “an extra $13 million in extra funding to help with this year’s $103 million budget, along with special authorization to use some of that money to offset local property taxes. Stack denies political deals were in place and said he’s only spoken with the governor twice since the 2009 election.”
