HOBOKEN – Mayor Dawn Zimmer released a statement Thursday afternoon regarding reports of an altercation between Parking and Transportation Director Ian Sacs and a city employee.
“While I believe Director Sacs is the victim of workplace violence, I am calling for an independent third party to thoroughly review this matter,” Zimmer said in the release. “Workplace violence is an extremely serious matter and cannot be condoned. My administration has zero tolerance for such conduct, and I urge the council to support this internal review and codify the ethics ordinance which seeks to address this issue.”
Claim and counterclaims have been filed, and the case will proceed through a municipal court outside of Hoboken, according to a city release. A third party independent review will also begin “as soon as possible,” according to a city release.
The release adds, “The alleged attacker has been suspended without pay pending further investigation.” The statement from Zimmer also indicated that a police officer and retired police officer witnessed the attack.
While no other details have been released, other websites said that the altercation occurred involving a bus driver after Sacs confiscated his keys. — Ray Smith
