HUDSON COUNTY– Participants in the 10th Annual “Hudson County Shout Down Drugs” music competition will perform their original drug prevention music at a concert on Thursday, March 24, 2011, at Newport Centre Mall, Jersey City. The concert will begin at 7 p.m. at the Newport Centre Mall, 30 Mall Drive West, Jersey City, in the center court on the first floor. This drug-free music and song writing competition is sponsored by the Partnership for a Drug-Free New Jersey (PDFNJ) and United Way of Hudson County.
“Hudson County Shout Down Drugs” is a music competition designed to bring peer-to-peer substance abuse prevention messages to students throughout Hudson County.
Sixteen students from Dr. Ronald E. McNair Academic High School (Jersey City) James Ferris High School (Jersey City) Harrison High School and Union City High School will perform their songs in the concert in front of a panel of live judges.
The winning performance will be presented with a $1,000 music contract by the Partnership for a Drug-Free New Jersey and United Way of Hudson County.
Angelo M. Valente explained, “High school students in Hudson County were invited to participate in the competition. The winning song will be professionally recorded and produced onto a CD for county-wide distribution.”
