Pre parade mayhem

Dear Editor:
The recent articles on the “Saint Patrick’s Day” parade focused on the post parade
turmoil. As a long-time resident of Park Ave (2nd and 3rd Streets), I can personally
vouch for the mayhem wrought by the revelers running up and down the street by 8am.
This continued all day and between the revelers and the police cars and ambulances tearing
down the street, the best a resident could do was to stay inside for the entire day.
None of this has anything to do the parade and everything to do with the bar owners.
Other cities have St. Patrick’s Day Parades. Where they differ from ours is that they are
not an appendage to the bars.
Other than enriching the bar owners, just what does Hoboken derive from having to
patrol and clean up this mess?

Sincerely,
Emily B. Curtis
