Leader of slate running against Sacco kicked out of race

NORTH BERGEN – Michael Kreutzer, who was to lead the “Citizens for Change” ticket against Mayor Nicholas Sacco and his incumbent commissioners, has apparently been removed from the race after the township clerk determined that he was not a registered voter.
Township Attorney Herbert Klitzner said that Township Clerk Erin Barillas, as part of her job verifying petitions, checked that those who signed were registered voters. Kreutzer had signed several of his running mates’ petitions and when she checked his name he did not come up as a registered voter, a requirement for running for election.
“The qualifications for being a candidate are very simple…you have to be a registered voter,” said Klitzner.
Klitzner said that after finishing their investigation late yesterday the Hudson County clerk was notified and a letter was sent certified mail to Kreutzer.
Klitzner said that Kreutzer is “free to take whatever recourse” he wants, but as of now, only the four remaining candidates may run for election on May 10.
