Trying to balance reckless spending

Dear Editor:
As a resident of New Jersey we cannot expect the Federal Government to get out of the mess that was created by the former governors, James McGreevey and by John Corzine. Both former Governors had bad habits of reckless spending. Today, new Jersey State budget is in crisis that Governor Chris Christie is trying to balance. Eleven years ago the city of Union City was headed for bankruptcy under a different administration and fortunately for all of us eleven years ago the city was about to face hard economical times and a resident born and raised in Union City by the name of a figure today well known in our state by the name of Brian P. Stack came to representation to rescue our trouble city. Mayor Brian P. Stack took over the city and it took dedication and sharp management skills to take us out of difficult financial times. From the beginning when Brian took over (2000), he froze the hiring of the city employees, also very important today we have more police in the street than we had in two thousand (2000) and Brian is doing it with a smaller budget. The reason is, Brian has eliminated unnecessary positions in different city departments. Today Union City enjoys better quality of life by having safer streets, an outstanding public
Educational system, despite all the unrest that exists in today’s society.
Recently all the Governors of each state met in Washington D.C. and were given a conference by a professor from Harvard University and he clearly indicated that each state must help private businesses,
Public employees and make our residents better prepare to compete in a global economy. Union City and the rest of the state of New Jersey have a bright future because the people of New Jersey are well informed and demand and hold responsible the officials we elect to fight for progress for everyone at large.

Respectfully,
Oscar Cordero
