Dear Editor:
My name is Rami Pinchevsky, and I am running for Hoboken City Council in the May 10 election because I have become frustrated by the corruption and incompetence that have held back our great city for so long.
I moved to Hoboken’s 4th Ward almost 10 years ago and shortly thereafter married my high school sweetheart, Miriam. We fell in love with the neighborhood, bought our current apartment in the Sky Club, and began making plans to start a family.
Almost immediately, I became involved with the Save Block 11 movement because I am a passionate advocate for creating parkland and implementing responsible development in Hoboken. I am a member of the City Planning Board, a member of People for Open Government, a member of the Hoboken Elks’ Club, and a member of the Hoboken Historical Museum.
Professionally, I am a credentialed pension actuary and an associate of the Society of Actuaries. I have spent my professional life analyzing employee benefits, measuring value, and assessing risk to help companies become as efficient with their finances as possible. Now, I have an opportunity to help Hoboken become as efficient as possible with resident’s tax dollars. I even enrolled in and completed the Municipal Budget Process course at Rutgers University’s Center for Government Services.
Too often, our elected officials make decisions based on opinion, not data, and in cases where they do get hard facts, they are often misinterpreted. As a member of the City Council, I will be able to use my expertise to review bills, budgets, and paperwork to make informed, independent decisions. We all want a place to start a family or grow a business. We all want to get the services our tax dollars pay for. We need someone who will fight for the 4th Ward, and that is what I will do on the Hoboken City Council.
