MATTHEWS, SALLY

A mass of Christian burial was celebrated Feb. 28 at St. Aedan’s Church for Sally Matthews of Jersey City. She passed away at St. Peter’s University Hospital, New Brunswick, on Feb. 16. Born in Jersey City, she was a lifelong and was 101 years of age. A graduate of the Academy of St. Aloysius (class of 1925), Sally was recently honored as the oldest living alumna. A legal secretary by profession, she started with the N.J. State Board of Child Welfare before working for Steisel and Company, Davis and Roth Esq. and finishing her career with Nathan Beck Esq. in Jersey City. Sally was an officer in the Assoc. of Legal Secretaries and was selected Secretary of the year. A member of the Golden Club and Rosary Society of St. Aedan’s Church she was a devout parishioner for many years. She was the wife of the late James J. Matthews, mother of Robert J. and his wife Gale Woolf-Matthews and James D. and his wife Beverly Serafin Matthews. Sally is also survived by her grandchildren Robert A., Brett C., Lynnette K., Brian C., Christine C. Matthews and Shane K. Woolf. Services arranged by the McLaughlin Funeral Home, Jersey City.
