A funeral mass took place Feb. 22 at St. Paul the Apostle Church, Jersey City, for Mary Gioia, 74. She died Feb. 18 at her home. A lifelong Jersey City resident, she was the daughter of the late Ann (O’Brien) and Patrick Sheerin. She worked in the billing department at Christ Hospital, Jersey City for 30 years, retiring as supervisor one month ago. She was an active member of St. Paul the Apostle Church for the last 55 years. She was the wife of Richard; mother of Richard and his wife Joanne, Ann Hoffman and her husband Philip, Michael and his wife Elaine, Joseph Gioia, Mary Santiago and her husband Bernabe; grandmother of Courtney and her husband Robert Lowry, Ryan Hoffman, Michael Gioia, Alyssa Gioia; sister of Nancy Skelly, Ellen McGill, Theresa Mulvihill, Monica Foulkes, Dolores Stevenson and the late Patrick and Patricia Sheerin.
