HUDSON COUNTY — The top cover of this month’s New Jersey magazine boasts: “Exclusive: How a rabbis’s son brought down Hoboken’s rising political star.” The story is about the book THE JERSEY STING, a book to be released March 15 by Ted Sherman and Josh Margolin, which tells the tale of the federal sting operation that in July, 2009 resulted in the arrests of 44 political officials (mostly candidates running for office) and religious leaders.
The exerpt published in this month’s issue of the magazine focuses on the downfall of young rising star — and former Hoboken mayor — Peter Cammarano.
Among other things, the exerpt says that when Cammarano ran for mayor, his advisors encouraged him to reveal early in the campaign that he had fathered a child with a high school girlfriend, but he chose to wait and let the information come out in the press so he could play the victim. “It worked like a charm,” the story says.
The book is being published by St. Martin’s Press and is subtitled, “A true story of crooked pols, money laundering rabbis, black market kidneys, and the informant who brought it all down.”
