Company that wants to buy Hoboken hospital appears to confirm it placed ad

HOBOKEN, BAYONNE AND BEYOND – A company that is a co-owner of Bayonne Medical Center and is in negotiations to buy Hoboken’s hospital issued a release Wednesday hinting that it placed an ad with a real estate company to sell and lease back the facility for $90 million. But apparently, the move was meant to explore options in terms of financing future improvements to the hospital, according to the statement.
In a statement released Wednesday, a spokesman for HUMC HoldCo said that even though they already have the funding to buy Hoboken’s hospital from the city – and are in exclusive negotiations to do so — “HUMC Holdco is continuing to explore additional sources of financing in order to advance HUMC’s goal of building a nursing home/assisted living facility, modernizing and expanding the maternity unit, and longer term capital needs.”
The full statement, from spokesman Spencer Baretz, is:

“In response to recent media reports, HUMC Holdco will confirm it is in an exclusive period of negotiation with the Hoboken Municipal Hopsital Authority for the purchase of Hoboken University Medical Center. The financing for the purchase of Hoboken University Medical Center has been in place prior to our response to the HMHA ‘s request for proposals. Nevertheless, HUMC Holdco is continuing to explore additional sources of financing in order to advance HUMC’s goal of building a nursing home/assisted living facility, modernizing and expanding the maternity unit, and longer term capital needs.”
