Hoboken dog who got nearly electrocuted leads to citywide review of light poles

HOBOKEN – Just a few days after a dog named Teddy Bear was nearly electrocuted after urinating on an exposed light pole in Church Square Park, the city is now working with PSE&G to check all light poles in the city, according to a city release.
The dog is a 2-year-old bull mastiff, and he came in contact with an exposed wire on a light post, according to a report on NJ.com. The dog did not appear to be badly injured, according to the report.
“Unfortunately, numerous plates from the light poles have been stolen, and the city is working to have new plates made with a locking system for the protection of all Hoboken residents and pets,” according to a city release. “Caution tape has been placed on light poles with open plates which are of concern and will be fully repaired as soon as possible.”
Residents who see light poles with open plates are advised to call the Environmental Services department at (201) 420-2049. — Ray Smith
