Hudson Reporter Archive

Thanks Jim Hague

I am writing to thank Jim Hague for his feature story on the Hudson Catholic basketball team, involving their triumph over St. Peter’s Prep, in the January 30th edition of the Reporter. I cannot tell you how much this victory and your reporting of it means to our school. As you know, we saved our school from closure three years ago, meaning that accomplishments such as this, our run in football to the state final in 2008, and the hundreds of students who were able to graduate from the school they chose to attend, would otherwise not have had the opportunity to occur if the Hawk Alumni had not stepped in at the eleventh hour in the spring of 2008. So each time some positive comes from these ongoing efforts, we swell with pride and joy because, in contrast to many other things going on today in education, for us, it IS all about the kids! We are disciples of the Christian Brothers and their founder, St. John Baptist de la Salle. As such we dedicate much of our lives in service to others. in the wake of some unfortunate recent events involving our school administration, we, the Alumni of Hudson Catholic, have recommitted ourselves to the ongoing health and successful operation of our alma mater under the capable stewardship of Principal, Sister Joanne Aumand, and her dedicated team of administrators and faculty. Every time a Catholic school closes, we all die a little bit more, as is the case with St. Mary’s at present, and St. Joe’s WNY two years ago. Hudson Catholic remains a beacon on a hill for the students of Hudson County, a singular example of a school that can indeed come back to life after it has received the Last Rights! Sincerely, Gary Ferrari ’73 Volunteer Director of Development Hudson Catholic Regional High School for boys and girls.
