A funeral service took place Feb. 18 at Miracle Temple, Jersey City, for Sarah Grant. She passed away Feb. 14 at the Hamilton Park Nursing Home in Jersey City. She was the wife of the late James Grant Sr.; mother of Phillip, James Jr., Debra, Lisa, and Sheila Grant; sister of Ernest Jr., Johnnie, Margaret, Catherine; and grandmother of Deja, Dominique, Z’nobia. She is also survived by nine grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews; and other relatives, and friends. Services arranged by the Watson Mortuary Service, Jersey City.
HORAN, AL. Funeral services took place Feb. 19 for Al Horan, 98, formerly of Jersey City. He passed away Feb. 14 in Toms River. Al was born in Brooklyn to Alfred and Alice Horan. He grew up in Jersey City, spending much of his working career in the food, hotel and travel industries. In his later years he enjoyed writing his book, “Wrinkle Beach” (wrinklebeach.com). He had a wonderful sense of humor. He and his wife were communicants of St. Aloysius RC Church, Jersey City, for many years. He was predeceased by his wife of 53 years, Helen, who passed away on April 14, 1995. He is survived by his children, Patricia Thayer, Eileen Conover and her husband Gerret, and Tom Horan and his wife Diane; his sisters, Mary Kelly and Zita Coons; sister-in-law Carol Horan; his grandchildren, Nancy Fellers and her husband Jeff, Bobby Thayer and his wife Karen, Kevin Thayer, Kristin Jack and her husband Justin, Kerrie Conover, and Gigi and Danny Horan; and his great-grandchildren, Rebekah, Jesse and Grace Fellers and Savannah and Carter Jack.
