Drooling man licking car window leads to drug arrest

Bayonne police said they were drawn to a car parked at 25th Street and Broadway on Feb. 9 when they saw a drooling man in the back seat licking the rear car window.
When the officers went to the car to see if the man was alright, the man – indentified as Matthew J. Mortiemer, 20, of Bayonne – started to lick the glass even more intensely, police said.
When the officers approached the other man seated in the front passenger side – indentified as John Rusch, 20, of Bayonne – he just drooled and stared at them.
A police spokesperson said the officers on the scene detected the odor of marijuana and ether, and found numerous half smoked and unsmoked marijuana cigarettes at various places in the car.
The driver, Gina Peretti, 19, of Bayonne, arrived a short time later, and police said she allegedly drove the car and the passengers to Jersey City, where they allegedly obtained marijuana laced with PCP.
Peretti was charged with possession and use of marijuana within 1,000 feet of a school, driving while under the influence, an unregistered motor vehicle, and parking within a cross walk.
Rusch, who was transported to Bayonne Medical Center for a blood test, was charged with use and possession of marijuana, prescription drugs, and PCP. He also had outstanding warrants for $5,000 in unpaid fines and was later sent to the Hudson County Correctional Facility in Kearny.
Mortiemer was charged with illegal possession and use of marijuana.

Homeless man busted after alleged CVS theft

Michael V. Rutkiewicz, 35 and reportedly homeless was charged with shoplifting from the Avenue C CVS drug store on Feb. 9. The store manager told police that he had seen Rutkiewicz leave the store allegedly with $94.79 in bottles of lotion and gels. A police spokesperson said a patrol car recognizing the suspect from a broad description stopped Rutkiewicz near 23rd Street and Broadway, where officers reportedly found him in the possession of the items, as well as two hypodermic needles. A search at the police station, the spokesperson said, found Rutkiewicz with three more hypodermic needles. A background check discovered that Rutkiewicz had $5,000 in unpaid fines to Jersey and nearly $1,500 in unpaid fines to other municipal courts in New Jersey. Rutkiewicz was sent to the Hudson County Correctional Facility in Kearny.

Alleged deodorant theft from Stop & Shop

Robert E. Myers, 42, of Jersey City, was charged with shoplifting from Stop & Shop on Feb. 8 after he allegedly took 68 sticks of deodorant valued at $258.77. Myers was sent to the Hudson County Correctional Facility in Kearny, a police spokesperson said.

Movie theft alleged

Justin Gonzalez, 21, of Bayonne, was charged with shoplifting on Feb. 3 when he allegedly tried to leave ShopRite with $41.36 worth of DVDs.
A police spokesperson said store security claimed to have seen Gonzalez removing four DVDs from their containers and stuffing the DVDs in his pants. The four movies were “Stewart Little,” “Residential Evil,” “Son of the Mask,” and the classic “Karate Kid.”
