Make sure to attend the kindergarten open houses Feb. 23

Dear Editor,
We are writing to encourage parents of young children to visit the Hoboken Public School Kindergarten open houses on Feb. 23. Five years ago, we too were facing the hand wringing decision of where to send our child for Kindergarten. Our child had attended a small local private pre-K program and it was with some hesitation that we decided to visit the public schools with which we were completely unfamiliar. To our surprise we found well-maintained schools with fantastic resources (school gyms, cafeterias, full-time school nurse, tutoring, speech therapy, guidance counselor, and play areas).
In our experience, the school administrators are extremely competent, accessible and responsive to any parental questions, concerns or ideas. Beyond the facilities, resources and administration we continue to be impressed by the warm, dedicated and experienced teachers our child has had over the past five years. As we watch our child thrive academically, we’re glad we took the time to consider the Hoboken public schools as an option. If it’s not already on your calendar, do yourself a favor and drop in to one of the public school open houses and discover what they have to offer your child.
